Holler

New York Magazine September 28, 2009 pg. 77

I admittedly have yet to actually listen to Ganglians, but I was amused to see them get a shout out in New York Magazine, which made it seem like they were lumped in with other Brooklyn bands. Weird. One guy said, "the artists also share a determined aversion to trendiness," but isn't releasing tapes a pretty trendy move?

anticipation

After many wasted moments of filling out surveys I wracked up enough points to receive a few magazine subscriptions. Yesterday an issue of Paste was waiting for me.

I've been looking at a lot of magazines in the past few weeks for a class of mine and I've been sorely disappointed at the general design and layout of the lot of them. This beauty of a cover had me almost in tears. Having a background in both art and graphic design has given me interesting perspectives on design. For the most part I find computer generated art to be very flat. I am working on bringing texture and interest to the type itself. This masthead really nailed it.

When I opened up to the story I was suprised to find not one single movie still or picture.
Instead you are presented with the emotion and spirit of the work itself.

It must be said that I am insanely excited for Where the Wild Things Are. Dave Eggers is perhaps my favorite author. Spike Jonze is one of my favorite directors and of course the book itself made a lasting impression on me.
It seems that there is no way I can hate this movie, and that is why I'm nervous.
In any case this is a gorgeous spread. I heard Paste might be in danger of shutting down. Let us hope not.

Maybe not dead, but dying.

To start off it should be known that I'm addicted to print media. I'm crazy about magazines, posters, books, record covers, and what have you.
There are people out there that claim print is dying. Newspapers aren't doing so well. This past year many magazines had to close up shop. People tend to just download and buy music files. But it will always be more satisfying to hold something in your hand, to touch and feel what your money has earned you.

I'm going to show you what you are missing world wide web. At the very least when the last newspaper is gone, when records are no longer manufactured, this will stand as a reminder.
